Community Meeting 4 was held on Wednesday, June 12th, 2019. The meeting previewed the South Division Corridor Plan to the community. We had approximately 50 attendees, including a few first-time participants. The large boards in the Pop-Up space were all updated to showcase the Plan Principles (including vision, desired outcomes and the top three project ideas for each) and the opportunity maps and concept renderings for each of the six focus areas along the corridor. Each participant received $10,000 “Division Dollars” to fund their favorite project ideas.
The top five projects identified were:
- Develop a Storefront Improvement Program
- Recruit a Credit Union or Minority-Owned Bank
- Facilitate Home Repair and Improvements
- Develop and Support a Variety of Community Events
- Advocate for Changes to City and State Policy
These top-ranked projects will receive further concept development within the Corridor Plan, followed by the ten remaining concepts developed by the Working Groups, and the larger pool of project ideas that may be further developed through plan implementation.

Next Steps of the project
As the process shifts from community engagement and visioning into development of the actual Corridor Plan and implementation strategies, it may seem like things have been slowing down. It’s been quite the opposite! The Camiros team has been busy refining the Project Sheets that will serve as the backbone of many of the Plan recommendations. Similarly, they have been working on recommendations for each of our geographical focus areas.
The SB Friedman Team has refined the Market Study based on comments from the Steering Committee, including creation of data that supports marketing the corridor for a financial institution. They have also completed the first draft of the Residential Affordability Assessment, which helps us to better answer the questions of “What is affordable for THIS neighborhood?” and identify the challenges that need to be addressed around housing and displacement risk.
Looking ahead, we have also developed a tentative schedule from now through Plan Adoption. Key items include:

Participating retailers include Fineline Boutique, Gentlemen Fashions, Italian Connection Men’s Wear, Koko B. House of Design, La Casa de la Cobija, and SNEAKRJEANUS. James Starks, morning anchor for ABC 13 On Your Side, will host the event. Doors open at 3:00pm.
Tickets are available: $5 General Admission; $10 VIP Seating; and $15 Family.
This event is being brought to you as a part of the South Division Corridor Plan study process, which will also be highlighted at the event. We are charging a small ticket price to cover a portion of the costs for the events. Retail and Housing Survey
The South Division Corridor Plan steering committee and planning team invite you to participate in our Retail and Housing Preferences survey where residents, local businesses, and other stakeholders can provide input regarding the future of development along South Division Avenue. Your input will inform our work as we prepare strategies to revitalize the Corridor and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Community Meeting #2: Creating a VISION for South Division

We will begin exploring several key locations along South Division (from Wealthy to just north of 28th Street) as well as our larger vision for the corridor. What policies and services are needed to keep residents and business owners along the corridor? How do we attract new investments, goods and services? We need your voice to help shape this vision. Taste of South Division

Join us as we bring together the restaurants that make South Division a fabulous food destination, all in one place. Make this your Halloween celebration, or stop by before you hit the streets to trick-or-treat. Free food samples will be provided. We will have raffle prizes, a costume contest, and other entertainment. This will also be the closing event of our Pop-Up Headquarters in this location, so let’s make it a fun one!

On Wednesday, September 19th two events will be held at the New Pop-Up Space! (pictured below).
From 8:30 – 9:30am the South Division Business Breakfast Mixer will be held. The intent of this event is to bring business owners together to network and share their concerns. It is also an opportunity for us to present our work to date regarding the Corridor Plan and encourage their participation going forward. Our Ambassadors have been visiting businesses to notify them of the event and have received a lot of interest, so we hope this will be a well-attended event. From 6:00 – 8:30pm an Open House for the Pop-Up Headquarters will be held. Community Ambassadors and the Consultant Team will be on hand to lead people through the visual displays of the process and work to date, receive feedback, and answer questions. Steering Committee Members are encouraged to join. Food is being provided for attendees from Jamaica Dave’s (Chicken Curry and Jerk Chicken with rice) and El Globo (Tacos and Chips/Salsa). The Public Launch Event was held on May, 20th 2018 as a neighborhood celebration meant to gather the community for an afternoon of fellowship while providing an introduction and invitation to the upcoming Plan process. Interactive elements of the event featured voting on a Plan logo, and ideas for potential early action projects. The key goal of the meeting was to kick off the project with energy, enthusiasm and openness and to get residents excited about being part of the process. Organizers and attendees felt the event was a major success and were excited for the future of the project.
